    CONDITIONS OF SALE —————e I.—The highest bidder to be the buyer, and if any dispute shall arise between two or more bidders, the lot so disputed shall be immediately put up again and resold. II.—No person to advance less than sixpence; above ten shillings, one shilling; above five pounds, half-a- crown, and so on in proportion. III.—All lots are offered subject to the right to sell at a reserve price, and subject also to the right of the vendor or the auctioneer to bid in respect of such reserve. The auctioneers reserve the right to offer any lots in this Catalogue as one lot. IV.—The purchasers to give in their names and places of residence (if required), and pay down a deposit of 30 per cent. in part payment of the purchase-money, _ in default of which the lot or lots so purchased will be immediately put up again and resold. V.—The lots to be taken away at the purchaser’s expense within two days after the sale; in default of which Messrs. HopcGson & Co. will not hold themselves responsible for any lots lost or damaged, but they will be left at the sole risk of the purchaser. VI.—The books are presumed to be perfect, unless otherwise expressed: but if, upon collating, any (except Manuscripts, Tracts or Plays in lots or volumes, Magazines, Reviews and other Periodical Publications, Prints and Draw- ings which must be taken with all faults and errors_of description) should prove defective, the purchasers will be at liberty to take or reject them, provided they are returned within ten days after the conclusion of the sale. VII.—Upon failure of complying with the above Conditions the money deposited in part payment shall be forfeited; and all lots uncleared within one week after the conclusion of the sale shall be resold by public or private sale, and the deficiency (if any) on such resale shall be made good by the defaulters.
