Madam Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen, I have much pleasure in presenting ny iuinual Report for the year ending I964, QJid in my opening I should like to draw your attention to some salient points. Vita,l Statistics - The Registrar General gave a mid-year estimate of population of 20,380 v;hich ?7as an increase of 370 over the previous ^'•ear. Births were in excess of deaths, 326/316, the first time that this has occurred since I96I. The death rate fell froi.i last year's high figure, due undcuhtedly to the very cold winter to the average of the preceding years. During 1964, it should he noted that 77% of all deaths occurred in persons over the age of 65. Social and Sanitary Circumstances - The East Oalcley sewage scheme- commenced during the carly part, to Bring this growing area of the district on to main drainage. At the rcciuest of the Park Prewett Hospital Management Committee, a hygiene inspection of the catering organisation was undertaken. Re were able, after carrying out a most comprehensive survey, to offer some suggestions, many of v/hich have Been implemented.
