    It has lately been found to arrest sickness, nausea, and retching, and a lozenge will quiet the stomach—in fact, anything so simple is worth trying. Many people use it if they feel the slightest symptom of sore throat or huskiness. Menthol—Mentha arvensis pipemscens.—must not be confounded with peppermint, although it is nearly allied to it. The former ought to be grown largely in England. I introduced this plant into the United States, where it has done well. This green herb is quite hardy ; it only requires to be ploughed at the side of the row and manured each winter. The foliage can be made into an infusion in case of fever. CUSHMAN’S PATENT MENTHOL INHALER, by a simple process of inhalation, overcomes all difficulties in the application of this valuable remedy. The instrument consists of a glass cylinder four inches in length, half-an-inch in diameter, and open at both ends. The cylinder contains crystals of Menthol closely packed and prevented from escape by perforated zinc and cork. The opening at one end is twice the size of the other, the larger being intended for inhalation by the mouth, the smaller for the nostril. The air not only passes freely through the entire mass, but is thoroughly saturated with the Menthol, and at once brought directly in con¬ tact with the mucous membrane, and the delicate network of nerves throughout the nose and head, throat and chest. It thus affords quick relief from all neuralgic and nervous pains, and reduces inflammation, and is particularly effective in the treatment of Headache, Neuralgia, Colds, Catarrh, Influenza, and Hay Fever, and all
