    Mr. F. E. Lyne, Mus.Bac., and Mr. F. A. Guest was the organist. The musical part concluded with “All people that on earth do dwell,” familiarly known the world over as the old Hundredth Psalm. The Gas Works Band played selections previous to the commencement of the ceremony, and in the carrying out of the general arrangements for the comfort of the immense company, Messrs. Foulkes, Whalley, New and Dinnis, jun., acted as stewards, and together with the mem¬ bers of the British Legion, rendered valuable service. The Legionaries also took up the collection in a very impressive manner. The singing of the choir was a marked and most pleasing feature, the voices blending very melodiously, and the whole effect enhancing the refined and uplifting nature of the whole ceremony. There were some amusing little incidents in the course of the afternoon. For instance, when reference was made by the President to the munificence of Mr. Stallabrass, a gentleman among the audience exclaimed: “He ought to be knighted!” The remark was greeted with vociferous applause, and Colonel Stracey-Clitherow promptly voiced his entire agreement, and added that as they had their Member of Parliament among them, he was the man to see to it, and if he didn’t he ought to be turned out at the next election. The President, when the principal event was reached, gallantly escorted Mrs. Stallabrass to the stone, and after watching that lady deftly handling the trowel, said : “I think you are used to such a ceremony, Mrs. Stallabrass, you do it so well.” Those who heard the remark emphasised it with their hearty applause. Just as the docu¬ ments and journals were being inserted in the cavity prepared, Colonel Stracey-Clitherow pulled out a coin of the realm and said : “Here, put that in, too.” The stone bore the following inscription : FOUNDATION STONE LAID BY MRS.
