Franklin, Kenneth James (1897-1966)

Jean Méry. A translation into English, with exhaustive notes, etc. of Méry's 'Nouveau système de la circulation du sang, 1699': with translations of extracts from the works of opponents and supporters of his theories. Author's holograph, uncompleted MS. The extracts are from the works of Joseph Guichard Duverney [1648-1730], Daniel Tauvry [1669-1701], Philip Verheyen [1648-1710], D. Silvestre, and Paul Buissière. This MS. seems to have been originally part of Franklin's history of the foetal circulation, based on Méry's tract: but it has been left incomplete. Produced in London.

1 volume 100 ll. 4to. 23 × 10 cm. In a half-cloth-bound note-book. Mostly written on the rectos only, with many blank leaves.

The author held this post from 1947 to 1958. He qualified at Oxford in 1924 and obtained his M.D. in 1927. He was elected F.R.C.P. in 1940, and F.R.S. in 1952, and had been Dean of the Oxford Medical School. The work on the foetal circulation was published in 1944 [Cf. B. M. J. 1956, i, p. 1238].

Stamped inside the upper cover: 'Professor K. J. Franklin, Department of Physiology, the Medical College of St. Bartholomew's Hospital, Charterhouse Square, London, E.C.I. England.'
