    containing the substance to be heated, which substance may thus be subjected to a heat near to, but necessarily below, that of 212°. In the steam-hath the vapour of water at a temperature above 212°, but not exceeding 230°, is similarly applied. The Council think it right to add that the present edition of the Pharmacopoeia has been prepared by Professor Eedwood, of the Pharmaceutical Society, and ]Mr. Waeington, of Apothecaries' Hall, under the direc- tion of a Committee of the Council, consisting of the following Members:—Dr. Btjeeows, Dr. Apjohn, Dr. Christison, Dr. Shakpet, and Dr. Quain, who also acted as Honorai-y Secretary.
