![[ 2 5 ] Diamor. gj. M(y). If it was required yet more repellent, a fmall Quantatity of Alum was added. The fecond Stage is that wherein the white Sloughs begin to appear, which is a Step to¬ wards a gangrenous Colliquation. In this they order’d mild Abilergents and Antiputref- cents; fuch as a Decodion of Lupins, Beans, Vetches, with Honey of Rofes (z). The third is, when the Ulcers appear foul and fordid, and begin to look black, a real Mortification being come on, fometimes pene¬ trating to a confiderable Depth, with great Pu- trefadion. More powerful Aftringents and Exficcants were requifite in this Cafe ; fuch as Powder of Myrrh, and a little Alum mixed with Honey, or Honey of Rofes, Bole dif-r folv’d in Treacle-Water ; a Solution of Un¬ guent* JEgyptiacum in Barley-Water was alfo much in Ufe (a), Alum, Sulphur, Cop¬ peras, Verdigrife, Oil of Vitriol, Oil of Sul¬ phur, Spirit of Salt alone, or mix'd, or di¬ luted in different Liquors, were much em¬ ploy’d.
