![/ [38] the Purging, which generally attends the Ac* ceffion, ceafes. This Difcharge is frequently bilious and without any Pain: Tho’ theie Evacuations differ in different Habits. They complain of Thirft commonly left in this than in other acute Difeafes. The Tongue is generally moift, and not often furr'd : In fome neverthelefs it is cover’d with a thick white Coat or Fur, and thofe who are fo affected, often complain of Sorenefs about the Root of the Tongue. The Uvula and Tonfih, tho’ they are fome- times fo much fweifd, as to leave but a very narrow Entrance into the Gullet, and this En¬ trance frequently furrounded with Ulcers or Sloughs; yet the Patients often fwallow with lefs Difficulty and Pain than might be expefted under fuch Circumftances (^). They frequently complain, foon after they are taken ill, of an offenfive putrid Smell, affedting their Throats and Noftrils, which oft occafions Sicknefs before any Ulcerations appear. In thofe who have this Difeafe in g fevere manner, the Infide of the Noftrils, as high up as can be feen, frequently appears of g [e) I have feen many Cafes, where thefe Glands were fo enlarged, as to force back thr’ the Noftrils moll Part of what was attempted to be fwallowecj.
