![[ 4-8 ] feem’d to be the Caufe of fudden Death, in i Girl about 12 Years old. She was feized in the common Way^ with Shivering, Head- ach, Sicknefs, Vomiting, and Purging. The Difcharges abated in a few Hours, and were fucceeded by great Heat, Rednefs of the Skin, and a fore Throat; the Uvula,' Tonfds± and contiguous Parts were red, and fo fwell’d in eight or ten Hours, as to touch each other, and feem’d to clofe the Entrance into the Pharynx. She breath’d without much Difficulty, fwallow’d with lefs Pain that! could be imagin’d, and fpit up large Quan¬ tities of Phlegm. About fix in the Even¬ ing fhe was feized with a Difficulty of breathing, as if firangled: Thofe about her rais’d her up, thinking fhe was in a Fit; fhe recover’d herfelf a little, but expired upon being again laid down in Bed, in fomewhat lefs than 24 Hours from the firft Attack. A large Quantity of vifcid Phlegm, with which, after fhe was dead, her Mouth appear’d to be fill’d, together with the tumefied Uvula, cTonJilsy and Velum Palati, had perhaps jointly clofed the Rim a G lot t id is, and put a Stop to Refpiration. By a Fall in her Infancy fhe was reduced to the Neceffity of ufing Crutches.
