There are large paper copies with a frontispiece by Du Bose and a vignette by Vandergucht. This edition is known as the “Vinegar Bible, from a misprint for “Vineyard'’ in the running title to Luke XX. Large paper copies, now worth $15-25, used to bring four times as much. A copy on vellum, £255 Sunderland (Dec. 1881, n. 1424) old mor. The Bible. Oxford, printed by Mark Baskett and by the assigns of Robert Baskett, 1752. 40. This is believed to have been printed surreptitiously at Boston by Knee- land and Green in 1752. The only.copy known, $2025 McKee (May 1902, n. 4714), afterwards in the Thomas coll. See The Bibliographer, I (1902) pp. 238-240. The Holy Bible . . . Edinburgh, John Reid, 1766. Fol. An imperfect copy but one which had the distinction of being the family Bible of Robert Burns was sold for £ 1560 at Sotheby’s, 17 Dec. 1904, n. 885, and is now in the Burns Cottage at Alloway. BIBLE IN INDIAN The Holy Bible . . . translated into the Indian Lan¬ guage, Cambridge [Mass.], Samuel Green and Marmaduke Johnson, 1663. 40. The New Testament is dated 1661. The first edition of John Eliot’s celebrated translation of the Bible. There are seven different issues varying only in the preliminary leaves. (See the detailed account by W. Eames in J. C. Pilling, Bibliography of the Algonquian languages. Washington, 1891. 4°, pp. 139-152; also J. Wright, Early Bibles of America, New York, 1892. 12°.)
