![in 1938. Male infant deaths exceed the female infant deaths in almost all the localities. Of the imfants who died 47,572, 1.e., 40 per cent. of the total infant mortality died before they were one month old. 27,365 ofthese, ie., 23 per cent. of the total infant deaths were under one week and 20,207, 1.e., 17 per cent. over one week. Of the remaining 41,345, i.e., 35 per cent. were over one month and under six months and 29,508, i.e., 25 per cent. were between six and twelve months old. In 1988, the percentage inthe age groups of under one month, between one and six months, and six and twelve months were 37, 35 and 28 respectively. 27. Infant Mortality in Urban and Rural Areas——The urban and rural infant death-rates per 1,000 registered births for the Province were 185°31 and 143°93 respectively as compared with 227°95 and 162°50 in the previous year.
