Begins :—“ The first Popula- tion of Java is attributed to the remembrance of the then Reigning Prince of the Coast of Codjrat [=Gujrat] named Bali Atja [=Acha]; who with his Descendants in their time were known and renowned for their great Knowledge & Experience in Astronomy & of its use applied to Naviga- tion.” Ends, unfinished (p. 176):—‘‘ After some time past Kiai-Gedé-[_=Kyahi Géde]-Mataram fell sick, & as he felt that his end approached, he ordered very earnestly his nephew Kiai-Djooroo [=Juru], to take care of his Son & to act for his Interest, fortune & welfare, he also ordered his Son, to follow the advice & lessons of his Uncle Kiai-Djooroo & to live in good understanding & harmony with his Family. He died thereafter, & is buried on the West of the Temple of Mataram.—His death was cause of great sorrow to his whole family. Kiai-Djooroo & all bis Family amounting now to 1000 Heads as well Men as Women, went to Padjang [= Pajang]| to inform the Prince of his death. On their arrival they appeared before the Prince who came out on Monday & sat upon the Throne and attended by those his Courtiers in waiting who were present with his Highness—His Highness’s own Son, the Pangerang Banowo [=Pangeran Banawa], & his two Sons in law the Adipatty [=Adipati] of Touban {[=Tuban], & that of Damak [=Démak], also the Prime Minister Ario-Montjo [=Arya Mancha]. On this occasion Radeen Ingabey-Sooto- Widjayo[=Raden NgabehiSutawijaya] acquainted the Prince with deep sorrow, of the death of his Father Kiai-Gedé Mataram, at which loss the Prince was much concerned & said thereupon to his adopted Son ‘Sooto Widjayo as your Father is dead, | find it good, to nominate & appoint you in his place as Adipatty of Mataram & I now nominate and appoint you in presence of my people by the Heroic Name of Senopatti Ingabeya [=Senapati Ngabehi] —®& you Kiai Djooroo I confer on you the Name of Mondoroko {=Mandaraka] with recommendation that you shall take care of this my Son faithfully & procure him for his Virtue and for his Interest & may you enjoy & taste along with him S$ 16537—1.
