    can obtain greater benefit without any FURTHER expense by utilising a Deed of Covenant (as attached) whereby in return for your promise to spread your contribution over 7 yearly payments the Hospital regains the amount of Income Tax thereon and you obtain relief in respect of Sur-Tax verb, sap : for example— If a contributor who now subscribes £5 5s. Od. per annum enters into an agreement as covenant attached* filling in the figure £5 5s. Od. the result will be, under the Finance Act, 1922: (a) The subscriber sends a cheque for £5 5s. Od. with a certificate that he has paid Income Tax on the amount; the Hospital can supply forms of certificate if desired. (b) The Hospital recovers the Income Tax, i.e., £1 15s. Od. (c) The contributor appears as a Subscriber of £7 Os. Od. (with Income Tax at 5/- in the £). (d) The contributor can deduct £7 Os. Od. from his return for Sur-Tax. i . of. hereby Covenant with the Treasurer for the time being of the NORTHWOOD, PINNER & DISTRICT HOSPITAL, that for seven years from the date hereof, or during my lifetime, whichever period shall be the shorter, I will pay annually to the said Hospital such a sum as, after deduction of Income Tax, will result in the sum of *£. being received by the Hospital in each year, the amount being paid out of my general fund of taxed income, so that I shall receive no personal or private benefit in either of the said periods from the said sum or any part thereof.
