    An Investment WHEN you spend money on some- thing that is of permanent value to you it is usual to say that you are making an investment ; and in regard to freedom of speech you are un- questionably making an investment in your earning power and material pros- perity as well as in your future happiness. In the past you have doubtless missed many opportunities and suffered innumerable humiliating experiences as the result of your stammering. Apart from the personal and social aspects, however, consider the matter for one moment purely from a financial aspect. Ask yourself just how much your speech impediment has meant to you in terms of actual money. Would you be earning more today if you had not been a stammerer ? Is it a perpetual hinderance to your progress and advancement in your business or employment ? Have you had to face the humiliation of seeing others of lesser knowledge and abilities outstrip you in the race of life for one reason and one reason only—because you stammer ?
