    I do riot imagine the filver leaf will add to the vir¬ tues of thefe pills; but as it is fo ordered by the German difpenfatory, in which thefe medicines are defcribed, I have copied the original verbatim for the fake of accuracy* V. Pilule? Pclychrcfttf Starkei, or the Black Pills, Take Extradt of Opium, Liquorice Powder, Black Hellebore, White Hellebore, each one ounce : Tartarized Soap,* three ounces: make thefe into a mafs of pills. One feventh part of this mafs confifts of opium: as an opiate it referribles the faponaceous pill of the London Difpenfatory; and is, in ignorant hands, a very dangerous medicine. This I imagine proved fo injurious in Cafes lft. and 2d.; at lead, from fome experiments I had the melancholy occafion to make in Cafe 7th, I prefume I have juft grounds to fuft pedt fo.
