On the first day of May of each year the surgeon Est imatea foi in charge of each United States marine hospital will for- ward to the Supervising Surgeon-General an estimate, in duplicate, of the quantities of subsistence and other sup- plies required for consumption during the next ensuing fiscal year. 226. The ordinary articles and quantities of subsistence snbsiatoncD ai- supplies for ten thousand full rations shall not exceed''“‘''*‘“““' eight thousand pounds of meat, fresh and salt; two thousand pounds of fish, fresh and salt; ten thousand pounds of vegetables; ten thousand pounds of bread- stuffs and other prepared farinaceous food; one hun- dred pounds of tea; three hundred pounds of coffee; fifteen hundred pounds of sugar; twenty-five gallons of molasses or .syrup; eight hundred gallons of milk; one thousands pounds of butter; three hundred dozen of eggs; three hundred pounds of lard ; fifteen hundred pounds of fresh and dry fruit; five hundred pounds of salt; twenty- five pounds of pepper; twenty-five gallons of vinegar; twenty-five gallons of pickles. 227. Upon the approval of the estimate for annual sup- Approvedscbed- plies, advertisements for proposals will be published in accordance with the directions of the Department, and, upon request, schedules will be furnished dealers in the articles enumerated, for the purpose of obtaining their proposals. 228. In making schedules of articles on which propo- schedules to bo sals to furnish the supplies maybe based, each article must be fully specified, describing, so far as possible, its kind, brand, and quality. The exact weight or volume must be given, in order that there may be no doubt as to what the bidder whose proposals are aecepted will be required to furnish.
