Handschriften- sammlungen wie die des Lord Ashburnham, tiber die Leopold Delisle mit der thm eigenen Meisterschaft und Griindlichkett an seinem Catalogue des mss. des Fonds Librt et Barrots, Parts 1888, berichtet, und die des Sir Thomas Philipps, die vom Jahre 1886 an bis 1913 tm 14 Ver- steigerungen zur Aufldsung kam, sind in gletcher Retchhaltigkeit mivrgends in der Welt im Privat- besitz und nirgends auf dem Markt gewesen. Nicht minder wichtig aber sind die klerneren Sammlungen, die Handschriften- schatze enthelten. Wenn uns sonst Beckers Catalogt Briblio- thecarum antiqui, Gottliebs Uber mittelalterliche Bibliotheken, des- selben Mtttelalterliche Bibhiotheks- kataloge Osterreichs, Martinis Textgeschichte der Bibliothek des Patriarchen Protos von Kon- stantinopel, E.G. Vogels Lite- vatur Ooffentlcher und Corpo- vations-Bibliotheken, Blaus Ver- zetchnis der Handschriftenkata- loge dev deutschen Buibliotheken, KlemmsZ ur Geschichte der Samm- lungen ftir Wissenschaft und Kunst in Deutschland, Paul Lehmanns Mittelalierliche Bi- bliothekskataloge Deutschlands, Schissels. Kataloge griechischer Handschriften, Falconer Madans in “Books in Manuscript’’ ent- haltene List of Printed Cata- logues of Mss. in European logue des mss. des Fonds Libri et Barrois, Pans 1888, and the one of Sir Thomas Phillipps, which was dispersed in 14 auction sales between 1886 and 1913, have not been equalled in com- prehensiveness anywhere in the world, netther in private collections nor on the market. However, smaller collections containing trea- suves of manuscripts were of no less tmportance. Though we can usually find a great deal of help in Becker's Catalogs Biblio- thecarum antiqut, Gotilieb’s Uber mittelalterliche Bibliotheken, Mit- telalterliche | Bibliothekskataloge Osterreichs by the same author, Martini’s Textgeschichte der Bib- liothek des Patriarchen Protos von Konstantinopel, E.G. Vogel's Literatur offentlicher und. Cor- porations - Bibliotheken, Blau’s Verzeichnis der Handschrtjten- kataloge dev deutschen Bubhio- theken, Klemm’s Zur Geschichte der Sammlungen fiir Wissen- schaft und Kunst in Deutsch- land, Paul Lehmann’s Mit- telalterliche Bublrothekskataloge Deutschlands,Schissel’s catalogues of Greek manuscripis, Falconer Madan’s List of printed catalogues of Mss. in European Languages, which appeared in “Books in Manuscript”, Marg. Moore's Clas- sified List of works relating to the Study of EnglishPalaeography and Diplomatic — to name only a few — we will have to look for less manifest sources and for more remote expedients, when deahng with manuscripts from more re- cent collections.
