    however, nowadays, so well-known that there is no need for me to enter into details. ‘The connection with nutrition is clear. It is common knowledge that the manufacture of food stuffs and the usual way in which foods are prepared for table, deprive human nutrition to a great extent of salts and vitamins, so that a large section of the population has become deficient in both. The inadequate supply of salts and vitamins, together with its manifold consequences, runs like a keynote through all other forms of diseases of nutrition. Contributory causes of the other diseases of nutrition, either singly or in combination, are these : lack of vitamins, disturbed equilibrium of vitamins and of minerals, retention of metabolic products, excess of albumen, food toxins, auto-intoxication, excess of acid, excess of uric acid, biological abnormalities of the regionary capillary net where all these causes act in combined interplay. These, too, cannot be fully indicated here nor duly explained. ‘The latter deficiency is the greater handicap to my explanation, because insight into their alimentary nature has not yet become common knowledge among the medical profession. Diseases of the Digestive Organs.—Dental disease in its three forms: Caries, paradontosis, deterioration of the jaw (mal-occlusion). Chronic catarrh of the stomach and hyperchlorhydria and its opposite achylia. Intestinal and duodenal ulcer. Colitis. Habitual constipa- tion. Appendicitis. Hamorrhoids and eczema of the anus. Disease of the stomach and intestine. Flatulence. Diseases of the liver and pancreatic gland. Diseases of the Circulation.—Degeneration of the heart muscles, angina pectoris. High blood pressure. ‘The vasomotor neuroses or angioneuroses, especially Raynaud’s disease. Arteriosclerosis. Urinary Diseases——The majority of genuine chronic kidney diseases. Coli-pyelitis. Stone in the kidney. Skin Diseases.—Seborrheic eczema, many forms of chronic eczema, prurigo, psoriasis. Internal Secretory Glands.—Goitre, Graves-disease. Mycedema, disturbances of growth and propagation, injury of the suprarenal gland. | Diseases of Metabolism.—Gout, obesity and diabetes are caused exclusively by malnutrition. Diseases of the Central Nervous System.—It is becoming more and more probable that malnutrition must be regarded as a contributory cause of schizophrenia, cyclothymy, and the many kinds of sclerosis. Its causal significance in arterio-sclerosis of the brain and in apoplexy is an obvious consequence of the injury inflicted on the vascular system. Malnutrition is responsible for
