He was born in 1765 and died after 1823. He acted as Goveneche’s principal officer in Charcas, 1809-12, and was Commander-in-Chief of the forces used against the Rebellion of Pumacagua, being victorious at the Battle of Umachiri, March 11, 1815. This work contains the account of this campaign, written by one of the Lt.-Cols. of the Expedition. In 1816 Ramirez became President of Quito, and in 1822 he was defeated by Sucre at the Battle of Pichincha, capitulated and abandoned Quito, which was never again occupied by the Spanish. Folio. 8 pp. Boards. &9 9s An unusually interesting relacion. Father Aller gives an account of his journey to take up his missionary appointment among the Indians of Peru. He was accompanied by eleven Indians and tells of the various animals he came across and gives particulars regarding the customs, etc. of the Mohos Indians. [24] ALVAREZ DE CASTRO (A.). (Madrid, c. 1675). £3 3s The writer was President of the Real Audiencia of Guadalaxara and had been dismissed from his post and banished from America by order of the Council of the Indies. He brought a lawsuit over the matter and in this work sets out his case claiming that he had refused to adopt corrupt practices so making enemies who had brought about his dismissal.
