    Benefit Concerts. and their example is one which may well be followed by others, since many cases now admitted free by election would otherwise undoubtedly become chargeable to the rates. An excellent way of arousing interest in the welfare of the Institution and of augmenting its funds is the pro¬ motion of benefit concerts and entertainments similar to those so successfully organised at Newcastle-upon-Tyne by Mr. I. Watteeu and Mr. W. G. Hirschmann, at Wortley by Mr. E. Bayfield and Mr. S. Burrell, and at Crewe by Mrs. John Powell. These entertainments have caused widespread local interest, and have resulted in considerable additions to the subscription list.
