Growth and Physical Measurements The growth of boys with Klinefelter's syndrome is relatively normal until puberty, al¬ though by that time most are taller than the average for their age. In a series of 16 chromatin-positive males J. S. S. Stewart et al. (1959) found a mean height of 175 cm compared with 168.9 cm for the controls and a series of chromatin-negative patients. Comparison of the crown to pubis measurements shows that there is no significant variation between the different groups; in contrast the sole to pubis measurements did show variation; the chromatin-positive subjects generally having elongated legs and more eunuchoid proportions (Table 1-1). In three recently studied series the mean height is 177.4 cm while the arm span is 181.9 cm, and in two groups of subjects the crown-pubis measurement is sig¬ nificantly less than the publis-sole measurement (Table 1-1). Thus the increased height of these patients seems to result mainly from an abnormal length of leg rather than from the length of the trunk. Raboch (1957) studied 31 chromatin-positive cases and found the trunk to be short and the biacromial distance to be less than normal, while Overzier (1963a) agreed that long legs were more characteristic of the condition TABLE 1-1 Body Measurements in Klinefelter's Syndrome ^ Number of subjects indicated in parentheses.
