West had a shop at I Exeter Street, from where he later moved to 57, Wych ;reet, opposite the Olympic Theatre, Strand. William best's songs were performed publicly, at places to which bth young and old had free access, and although they ere, without exception, of an objectionable character, /est was only supplying a demand. William West's principal collection of songs appeared nder the title: The Blowen's Cabinet of Choice Songs; a zautiful, bothering, laughter-provoking collection of spifli- king, flabbergasting smutty ditties, now first printed, etc. Mb collection included the following songs: ' The Magical larrot, or the Parsley Bed', 'Great Plenipotentiary! A lost Outrageously Good Amatory Stave ', ' Katty O'Moore, r the Root', ' The Smutty Billy Black V My Woman is a lummy Whore ', and others, even worse. The price of these song-books was sixpence. A collection n larger format with a coloured etching as frontispiece was )riced at one shilling. ' The Gentleman's Spicy Reciter', The Cockatoo's Notebook' and ' The Gentleman's Sane- ium Sanctorum' are a few of the titles appearing in this j*ala publication. Another publisher of obscene songs was John Dun- combe of 10, Middle Row, Holborn, who died in 1852. He published, among others, Duncomtis Drolleries, Labern's Original Comic Song Book and Labern's Comic Song Book. A third publisher of obscene songs was William Dugdale, who published under the pseudonym H. Smith The Coal Hole Companion, The Cider Cellar Songster, and other similar collections.
