    No. 46. Interior. An old man in a wig and wearing spectacles is administering an enema to a woman. On th< left, three women sitting at a table. On the right, a chambei pot. I No. 47. The seashore. Two couples in a boat which k partly in the water, and partly on the beach. On the left, a stout woman shouting for help. No. 48. A wine cellar. An old man and a girl. A ewer beneath one of the casks is overflowing. No. 49 is entitled 'Essay on Quakerism'. A quaker and a girl who has three large plumes in her hair. No. 50 represents a gouty old man sitting in a low arm- chair playing the violin from notes resting on the back of a girl. Two other girls are playing other instruments, and all four are singing. No. 51. 'The Merry Traveller and the Kind Chamber- maid ' represents a bedroom, in which a pretty chambermaid is placing a warming-pan into the bed in the presence of a young officer. The girl has a libidinous expression, which is rendered in a masterly manner. No. 52. ' The Cunnyseurs ' shows the interior of a cottage. A girl and three old men, with a fourth old man peeping in through the half open door. No. 54. An interior. A youth and a girl asleep on a settee. An old man, whose face expresses uncontrollable anger, is about to stab the young man with a dagger. A woman is entering through the door which he has left ajar. No. 55. A garden. A man on a ladder is trimming a tree shaped like a phallus. He is watched by two women. Farther away a couple on a bench. There are two tubs near them, from each of which a phallus is rising. No. 56 represents a soldier and a peasant woman dis- porting themselves behind a hayrick. A man with a prong in his hand appears round a corner and surprises them. [642]
