![lemoirs of a Woman of Pleasure. These etchings are now vry rare, and it is difficult to determine their number. It is, 1 wever, quite certain that the obscene illustrations to (eland's obscene book were drawn by George Cruikshank. George Cruikshank also illustrated Pierce Egan's Life in ^ndon (1821). It was these drawings, which were not oscene, that established Cruikshank's reputation as one of iLe greatest cartoonists. George Morland (1763-1804) was another famous cartoonist, fe was Rowlandson's friend, and his conception of sex was umilar to that of Rowlandson. Their idea of the female pdy was almost identical, though Morland's style was more )mantic. George Morland drew a large number of most bscene pictures, mostly in association with his brother-in- tw, William Ward, and the etcher John Raphael Smith, 'he greater part of these artistically perfect drawings were p illustrate various famous novels of the eighteenth century. Fielding's Tom Jones was illustrated by the following aezzotints, by George Morland and John Raphael Smith: I 1. Tom Jones and Molly Seagrim in the Grove. Molly aid Tom under a tree. Thwackum and Square regard them n amazement from the distance. Sophie Weston is climbing Dver a stile, assisted by the Squire. 2. Tom Jones, Molly Seagrim and Square.
