![Lotiones.—Aqueous mixtures for external use, generally applied on lint, or washed on the part. The B. P. contains two : Lotio Hydrargyri Flava and Lotio Hydrargyri Nigra. Mella.—Mixtures of some substance with clari- fied honey. The B. P. contains only one : Mel Boracis. Misturse.—Liquid preparations consisting of one or more drugs dissolved in water or suspended in a solution of gum or some other thick fluid. The mixture is usually flavoured, and is for internal administration. Examples in B. P. of solutions : M. Creasoti, M. Ferri Aromatica, M. Sennse Composita. Examples in B. P. of suspension : M. Ammoniaci (the gum of which suspends the resin), M. Ferri Co. (triturated with water), M. Cretro, M. Guaiaci (suspended in gum), M. Olei Ricini (suspension aided with Liq. Potassre), M. Scammonii (suspended in milk). The dose of all is 1—23. Muoilagines.—Mucilages are aqueous, viscid solutions of gum or starch used for suspending in- soluble substances. The B. P. contains three : Mucilago Acacife, Mucilago Amyli, Mueilago Tragacanthse. There is no fixed dose ; it is usually 5]. Oleata.—Oleates are 10 per cent, solutions in oleic acid, intended for external apphcation. The B. P. contains two : Oleatum Hydrargyri (solution of yellow oxide of mercury in oleic acid). Oleatum Zinci (solution of oxide of zinc m oleic acid). Olea.—There are many oils in the Pharmacopoeia. They are all obtained by distillation or by expression except Oleum Phosphoratum, which is a solution of phosphorus in almond oil. The B.
