![3 Specimens of Shells with Images inside,—“ Buddha Shells: ” jf§ ££ P‘u Sa pang k‘o. These curious shells were obtained in Hangchow, the capital of the province of Chehkiang. The little image is produced by thrusting into the living shell-fish a small model—of metal or clay—of a Buddha or some similar object, and in course of time this becomes covered by the nacre. The details of the process are kept a trade secret by those acquainted with it. 4 Model—Chinese Fisherman: f Yii jen hsing shih. CLASS IV.
