![Dissolve the acetate and dilute with as much water as possible before adding the tincture which will cause the precipitation of the so-called lead ineconate. When the formation of a precipitate is expected the reacting substances should be diluted to the utmost extent so as to produce as fine a precipitate as possible. As a rule distilled Avater should be used for compounding medicines. For dissolving salts of silver, lead and zinc, its use is imper- ative to avoid the formation of insoluble salts of the metals. Solut. Acid. Borici Saturat. Oj or 500 c.c. Signa : The douche To be used as directed. Boric acid is soluble in 30 parts of cold water, therefore 292 grains [or 16*5 grm. in 500 c.c) are required to make the solution, which may be quickly done by the use of warm water. Plumbi Acetat. 5j or 4 grm. Acid. Acetic. Dil. mxx ,, 1*3 c,c. Aq. RosiB 5vj ,, 180 c,c. Ft. collyrium. To be used frequently. The acid is added to dissolve any lead carbonate which may be formed by the carbonic acid gas dissolved in the rose water. Aluminis 3ss or 2 grm. Infus. Ros8e Acid, 5iv ,, 100 c.c. Fiat gargarisma. One tablespoonful diluted with an equal quantity of water to be used as a gargle. Glycerin. Boracis 5j or 25 grm. Aquam ad 5iv „ 100 c.c. Signa : The gargle ; use twice a day. Enemata should have a mucilaginous base when they are prescribed as sedatives; mucilage of starch is probably the best. When they are intended to be retained in the bowel they should nor exceed two ounces in volume; but when used as evacuants ten or fifteen ounces must be used. Practical Exercise. ]^.
