    the fcalding heat of urine : for this purpofe I advife the patient for the firft week or ten days to have for breakfaft, thin milk-* pottage, a mefs of fego, or two or three dirties of tea, with a ilice or two of bread and butter; for dinner a bread-pudding, chicken, veal, or mutton-broth5 and of ve-^ getables, turnips, potatoes, and parfnips ; and by all means to avoid fiefh meats for the firft week at leaft : new milk from the cow affords excellent nourifhment, and is both cleanfing and cooling to the body, and therefore a mefs in the evening will be a very proper fupper. For conftant drink, I advife weak wine and water, or fmall begr. After the virulence is deftroyed and the matter begins to be of a better colour and confiftence, I then advife a more fubftan- tial diet, viz. chickens, veal, lamb, rab¬ bits, rice-puddings, rice-milk, chocolate, hartiborn-jellies, &c. which cool the body, thicken the juices, and leffen the fecretions, and confequently the difcharge of the ve¬ nereal running. When the running is greatly leffened and become quite ropy, and the pain entirely abated, I add to the foregoing diet, fea bifcuits, or Jew’s cakes, jarr-raifins, millet- puddings, and hartftiorn-jellies, which ftrengthen much ; for a diet of this kind /
