![During their Congress at Brighton a large number of the members of the Sanitary Institute paid a visit of inspection to this Asylum. A very agreeable afternoon and evening were spent, and the visitors were good enough to express themselves as very much pleased with what they saw of the sanitary arrangements of the Asylum. On this occasion the Medical Superintendent gathered together a few facts* relating to the Asylum, and among others he showed the growth of lunacy in Sussex, as accurately as the figures at his command would allow, since the opening of the Asylum in 1859 to the present Visit of Sani- tary Institute. shows :— The proportion of Pauper Lunatics chargeable to the Unions and places in the County of Sussex, to every 10,000 of the population, ENUMERATED in the Census periods 1861, 1871, 1881, and ESTIMATED im 1889.
