Upon examination, two very {mall orifices were difcernable on the nates, very near the perineum, but too fimall to admit acommon fized probe. A whitifh opake fluid was difcharged from them, and the parts fur- rounding feemed hard and callous, As, from his own confeffion, there was fome reafon to fufpe& a fyphilitic affeCtion, as he had no cough, and was in every refpect languid and de- bilitated, I wifhed to make trial of the ztric acid, with an intention of conquering the fyphilitic affection, as well as invigorating the fyftem. He began with 3 j. mixed in a quart of water, the whole of which was directed to be taken within the courfe of twenty-four hours, and the filtulous orifices were dreffed with mercurial ointment.
