![from hypertrophy, metritis, schirrus, tubercle, fibrous tumors, polypi, uterine tympanites, and hydrometra. Blue Color of the Vagina, or, Jaque- min's Test.—Value.—Doubtful, and even if true, usually inapplicable. Kiestine.—Definition.—A slight pellicle appearing on the urine of a pregnant woman which has been allowed to stand for about a week. Occurs as early as the 6th week, and continues until parturition. Value.—It is not peculiar to pregnancy ; when pregnancy is possible, it will generally be found. Lacta- tion prevents its appearance. The foregoing signs have been presented as briefly as possible ; for details, more elaborate treatises must be consulted. With the excep- tion of the detection of the pulsations of the foetal heart, no one sign is positive evidence of the existence of a living foetus. A con- currence of several must be sought in the determination of a question so deeply impor- tant as the existence of Pregnancy; a ques- tion that affects, in various circumstances, fortune, character, happiness, and even life itself.
