![INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD. Milk. Five dealers were licenced during the year. The licences issued were To use designation Tuberculin Tested 6 -do- Pasteurised 5 Supplementary -do- —do- —do— Tuberculin Tested Pasteurised Legislation placed the responsibility for the sampling of designated milks on the local health authority, the Wiltshire County Council. It was on]y at the end of the year that a satisfactory scheme of delegation was worked °ut, and seven samples of Tuberculin Tested vilk submitted for examination satisfied the methylene blue test. Earlier in the year, a retailer from outside the dis nc was discovered to be selling milk infected with organisms which could cause disease in man. An Order was served on him requiring this milk to be heat treated before selling, and this Order is still in force. Thirteen samples of Pasteurized milk were submitted for examination and all gave satisfactory results. Samples of goats’ milk sold in the township were cent for examination _ and all gave negative results to biological tests for tuberculosis and brucellosis Ice Cream. Twenty-nine samples of Ice Cream from eight Producers were submitted for examination. Twenty-seven of this fell into Provisional Grade I and two into Grade II. Food Hygiene, The Public Health Inspectors paid 233 visits to various food premises. Informal action was taken in five cases. It is hoped to obtain higher standards as some of these premises by educating the owners and employees. The _ Public Health Inspectors will be paying more attention to this natter during he coming year. Slaughterhouses. The table below shows the work done in the local bacon factory over a period of years. I an sure the Council now agree that it was necessary to appoint an Inspector so that this duty could be properly carried out. The aim should be 10($ inspection both ante-mortem and post-mortem, and I hope that this standard will be attained in the future.
