Description
Two women buying flower decorations or bows as hair-ornaments from two street-vendors with large boxes of such goods. The photographer was told that it was obligatory for a bridegroom to send such hair ornaments (made of kingfisher feathers) to his bride, along with four pigs, four sheep, four geese and four jars of wine

This is one of a collection of same-size contact prints made, in 1981, from John Thomson's original negatives. The glass negatives, made between 1868 and 1872, were purchased from Thomson by Sir Henry Wellcome in 1921 and are now in the Wellcome Institute Library
