![nr ii Primrose soap. Powdered borax Solution of potash . Solution of ammonia Oil of Turkish geranium Oil of lavender Tincture of saffron . Rectified spirit Distilled water to . 0j- 5SS* 5nJ- 5j- ltlxx. nix. 50- Oj. Shred the soap fine and just cover it with water. Allow to stand all night, and next morning rub it smooth in a mortar, add more water, the borax, and solu- tions ; dissolve and strain. Then add the oils dissolved in the spirit, the tincture, and finally water to i pint. No. i. is Piesse’s formula given in the ‘ Art of Perfumery,’ but here extended so as to include the ingredients of the perfume. It is an unworkable formula, and produces a solution which gelatinises. No. n. gives a preparation similar to what barbers use, with the cloud of glistening crystals. Instead of saffron, v hich is only used to colour the julep, a few drops of a solution of the yellow dye, crocein B, or tr. cambogite may be used. Dry Shampoos are highly spirituous solutions, such as Sapo. castil. alb. 01. lavand. Spt. rectificat. Aq. 5J- 5j- ovl]j- 5ijj- Macerate for a day or two, filter and add 5 Liq. ammon. M. • Sj- Balsamic Shampoo Rosemary-leaves (stripped from the stalks) . Castile soap . Chloride of ammonium Carbonate of potash Red sanderswood Water 3xlj- 3nj- gss. IV. r 3SS\ Oong. iss. Boil the rosemary, soap, and sanderswood in the water for twenty minutes. Then remove from the fire, and add the chloride of ammonium and carbonate of potash. Stir well and when cold strain. Put this up in l-pint bottles, and label to the following effect: • This Hair-wash thoroughly eiadicates Scurf, and promotes a fine growth of Hair. To use it, put a tablespoonful in a pint of warm water, and wash the Hair with this mixture, shampooing Shampoo-powder A 2d. packet which we analysed contained Dried carbonate of soda . xiss Dried curd soap . . ^[ss] .Solution of orange . sufficient to colour Mix. This for a pint of warm water. Hair-wash Powder Powdered borax . ?vv; Camphor . . ' fj. ' Oil of bergamot . . jss.
