It is impossible to peruse these interesting chap- ters without being convinced of the author's per- fect sincerity, impartiality, and thorough mental grasp. Dr. Tuke has exhibited the requisite amount of scientific address on all occasions, and the more intricate the phenomenathe more firmly has he adhered to a physiological and rational method of interpretation. Guided by an enlight- ened deduction, the author has reclaimed for science a most interesting domain in psychology, previously abandoned to charlatans ana empirics. Cloth, The practitioner as well as the student will ac- cept the plain, practical teaching of the author as a forward step in the literature of insanity. It is refreshing to find a physician of Dr. Clouston's experience and high reputation giving the bed- siiie notes upon which his experience has been founded and his mature judgment established. Such clinical observations cannot but be useful to the general practitioner in guiding him to a diag- nosis and indicating the treatment, especially in many obscure and doubtful cases of mental dis- ease.
