![illness amongst tlie existing staft. To meet tlie former difficulty a Student Health Visitors training scheme was instituted whereby Health Visitors are trained for service under the Corporation. In that way, it is hoped to have the full establishment of Health Visitors in the not too distant future. Since the inception of the new Health Service Act the scope of duties allocated to the Health Visitor has been extended. Slie is now responsible for special visits to tlie aged, sick, after-care visiting of patients discharged from hos])ital and of those cared for at home, in addition to her former duties of visiting mothers and all children under 5 years of age. Tlie depletion of the Health Visiting staff is much to be deplored, as the able Health Visitor in the past played a large and successful part in the reduction of Infant Mortality Rates and in tlie improvement in the health of mothers and children. Nursing Homes (Section 187-195, Public Health Act, 1936) There were three Maternity Homes and two Nursing Homes on the Register at the beginning of the year. One Maternity Home was closed in September. These Homes are inspected regularly. Any lapse in administration of the Homes is immediately dealt with by the Medical Officer of Health and the appropriate remedy insisted upon. The Rest (Seaside) Convalescent Homes, Porthcawl 6 patients were admitted to this Home during the year, and derived benefit in health from their sojourn there.
