Glen, Consultant Chest Physician. New cases examined (excluding contacts) (a) Definitely tuberculous 131 (b) Diagnosis not completed 70 *■ (c) Non-tuberculous 2,0881 Contacts (a) examined: Definitely tuberculous 11 (b) Diagnosis not completed n (c) Non-tuberculous 423] Total 2,171 435 Cases written off Clinic Register, including 1,962 non-tuberculous 2,104 Cases on Clinic Register as at 31st December (a) Definitely tuberculous 554) (b) Diagnosis not completed 75) 629 Total attendances at clinic, including contacts 5,302 Consultations with medical practitioners 4,978 Home visits by nurse 2,967 X-ray examinations — radiographic films 3,505 The number of new diagnosed cases showed a decrease of 16 pulmonary and 4 non-pulmonary compared with 1969, which shows that the low figures are being maintained. The B.C.G. campaign has now been in existence for many years and on the whole has been directed mainly to those under the age of 15 years so far as this clinic is concerned. The result of this form of immunity is apparent in the ever- lessening number of new cases of tuberculosis in this particular age group. The number of deaths from tuberculosis was four, thus maintaining the exceptionally low figure in recent years. This emphasises the vast changes that have taken place in the successful modem methods of treatment, and co-operation in all branches of the hospital service, but it is interesting to note that three cases were found at post-mortem and that the disease was not evident while the patient was living and, therefore, no treatment was given. Non-tuberculous conditions requiring investigation referred to the clinic and either diagnosed there or through in-patient treatment in the chest hospital during the year were as follows:— Cancer Bronchiectasis Asthma Unresolved Pneumonia Non-tuberculous effusion ... Spontaneous Pneumothorax Cardiac Other conditions Emphysema Hodgkin’s disease Men Women Children 44 14 — 1 6 - 33 29 7 13 13 - 2 1 — 3 1 - 25 20 — 5 11 - 1 1](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b29266737_0021.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
