Common. [Pennsylvania.] Pileus 2-3in. broad, irregularly scaly from the fragments of the volva ad- hering to the surface, variously coloured, white, straw-coloured, brownish, greenish, &c. Stem 3-4in. high, ^in. thick, fibrillose, attenuated upwards, bulbous below. Volva adnate at the base, with the margin free, more or less expanded. Odour powerful, and foetid, especially as it decays. Considered poisonous. Spores spherical '0003 in.— W- G. S. 6. Agaxicus (Amanita) mappa. Batsch. Delicate Amanita.
