    The retention of the menfes is not to be confidered as a difeafe, merely from their not flowing at the period which is cuftomary with other young girls, becaufe the period is fo various in different young women that no precife time can be affigned as proper to the fex in general. Different climates make great variety in this particular; in Eng- land they generally appear about the thirteenth or fourteenth year; but in many more early, and in fome not till the fixteenth year, and then fre- quently without any diforder occafion- ed thereby.. It has been remarked by phyficians, that when this difcharge appears at a proper age, and without any particular inconveniences, a fudden in- crease of ftature has been obferved, fo that in a few months the body has grown taller than it had done for a year or two before.
