Whenever a Regimental or Depot Hospital is furnished with provisions from a Purveyor's store, the Deputy Purveyor, or, if there be no Deputy Purveyor, the Assistant Steward, will place him- self in direct communication with the Purveyor, as the best means of ensuring prompt attention to the wants of the sick. On th^ arrival of a Begirtieilt or Detachment at a station where a Hospital is to be established, if there be no Deputy Purveyor, the Assistant Steward will take the proper steps for procuring Uie supplies of bread and meat and other ai'ticles of diet. The bread to be of the best household sort, and the meat of good quality, and of pieces best suited to the sick. If any charge beyond the contract price of meat for the troojiB shalf be found necessaiy, such extra charge, not exceeding one penny per pound, will be allowed. But if, after a reasonable time, the patient shall not recoveTj he' should he sent to any General Hospital, where temporarj^ lunatic wards may have been provided, and if, after a further reasonable period, there be no prospect of his ear|y recovery, a detailed history of the case is - to be transmitted t^o the Director-General, in order that the permission of the Secretary of State for War may be obtained for the removal of the patient to a Lrmatic Asylum, if such removal shall be deemed advisable.
