About this work

Description

Portrait of a newborn baby with Down's syndrome lying in an incubator sleeping. People with Down's syndrome are born with an extra chromosome at position 21 (trisomy 21). This can lead to learning disabilities, early onset Alzheimer’s disease and heart defects. Other health conditions common in people with Down’s syndrome include thyroid disorders and gastrointestinal problems. Part of "Shifting Perspectives", an exhibition centred around positive imagery of individuals with Down's syndrome.
