    CHAPTER IV. THE “OATINE” WAY TO BEAUTY. We come now to the consideration of a further series of Oatine preparations, which have not been previously dealt with, but which are equally useful and of as great merit in their own particular spheres, as are the preparations already referred to. *“Oatine’’? is a word coined by the proprietors to denote a certain group of specialities of their manufacture. There is no would-be mysticism concerning Oatine. The word is self- explanatory, signifying that the base of most of these compounds is derived from the fruit or grain of oats. The uses of a coarse flour of oats (oat-meal), have been recognised by both the medical profession and the general public from time immemorial, and the cleansing and healing properties have been taken advan- tage of in numberless ways. The Oatine Powders, viz, Oatine Face Powder and Oatine Talcum Powder, deserve a high place in this series of preparations which grace the toilet tables of so many ladies. A novelty in this direction is the Oatine Powder Book, which will be found exceedingly convenient when travelling, shopping, or on other similar occasions. For those whose skins require special treatment, particular notice should be given to the merits of Oatine Balm and Oatine Salve, each possessing special qualities having a beneficial action upon skins which are disfigured from one cause or another.
