![Coughs and Hoarseness are by no means imcoiti- mon complaints in a hot climate. When the cough is troublefome at night, 20 or 25 dreps. of laudanum may be taken at bed-time. A little honey rendered agreeably acid by lime-juice may be taken occafionally to remove the hoarfenefs and tickling in the throat. Or a little fweet oil mixed with the yolk of an^ egg and a fufficient quantity of lime juice and fugar to render it agreeable. In cafe of a fore throat, a gargle of vinegar may be uled fre(]^uently, or of lime juice and water.- Notwithftanding the heat between the tropics, Rheumatic Pains often affedt the limbs, particularly at the joints, and are moil fevere when the patient is warm in bed. There Is a fenfe of numbnefs in the parts afFeded, and a degree of coldnefs, as if cold water was running down them. The rheumatlfm is mod frequent during the rainy feafon, or when the air Is very moift,. and liable to fudden changes. It ufually arifes from ex- pofure to the night air in thin cloatiiing. When the pains aifeft the breaft they are often removed by wearing a flannel fhirt or walftcoat next the ildn, and alfo by putting on cotton, or flannel focks, to keep the feet warm and dry. The pains, at their very commencement, may often be removed by wearing a warmer drefs, and producing a gentle fweat. A tea-fpoonful of fpirit of nitre, and nearly the fame quantity of antlmonial wine, with 30 drops of laudanum taken at bed-time, will in general have the defired efFefl. Or inftead of the an- tlmonial wine, 5 grains of camphor may be diiTolved in a tea-fpoonful of fpirit of nitre, and added to the 30 drops of laudanum.
