About this work
Description
Some people are very angry about genetically modified food. Lord Melchett says the consequences could be irreversible and global. Sir Robert May argues that risk is an inescapable part of progress, and while we need caution, there is, so far, not one example of a bad effect, though he admits concern about garden centres and superweeds. For Nancy Cartwright the problem of trying to maximise all our values at once. One needs specific information or facts to help in each decision. Brian Wynne mentions changes to soil microbiology. Why are GM crops being developed: commercial gain or to feed the hungry? So far, says Brian Wynne, people have seen profit as the motive.
