As the results of the trial were satisfactory, application under thj Abstraction of Water Order, 1944, was made to the Minister 0 Local Government and Planning who held an enquiry on igt] May, 1951, resulting in permission being given for the Counci to sink an i8in. diameter bore and abstract water at a rate not ex; ceeding 480,000 gallons per day. Work on the i8in. bore com!! menced during October and at the close of the year a depth of 30 feet had been reached.
