No text description is available for this image![151 MINIATURE. MEDUSA represented asa young queen seated on a blue canopied throne richly decorated with gold. She is holding a sceptre and crowned and dressed in a short green jacket trimmed with ermine and a long pink skirt falling to the ground in volu- minous folds. Behind her on her right are two male attendants one of whom holds an arrow, on her left three women. Before her on a cupboard and a low table are displayed her treasure of gold and silver. Beyond are seen buildings and in the upper right hand corner is depicted a battle scene, A BEAUTIFULLY PAINTED MINIATURE IN FINE CONDITION (57n. by 34 in.), FRENCH, XV CENT. 152 MINIATURE. MIRACLE OF THE STIGMATA. A large miniature in gold and colours taken from an Italian choir-book. In the centre is an altar with the crucified Christ above: to the left a group of six men, the foremost of whom holds a long spear with which he touches the wound in the side of the Christ: from the wound a jet of blood falls into a bowl in front of the altar: to the right another group of five men, one of whom, anold and handsome bearded man, appears to be pleading with another clothed somewhat differently Srom the rest of the group and standing in an attitude of indecision, slightly rubbed. A VERY FINE MINIATURE, the detail in the faces of the two groups being particularly geod (5%in. by 58in.). ITALIAN, late XV CENT. 153. Mintature. St. ANNE, St. Mary Jacospr, St. Mary SALOME, St. HELEN, A BEAUTIFULLY PAINTED MINIATURE ON VELLUM with side borders of rose trees growing on a trellis, butterflies and a swallow (the border on the left cut into) ; the saints are painted half length within rectangular compartments on an architectural background each with her emblems, in a walled-in green foreground © are three rabbits and a toad, to the right the head and jfore-paws of a dog, in the centre springing from a pot of basket-work is a tree with lopped branches yrowing in two tiers to the height of the miniature. AN EXCEPTIONALLY FINE MINIATURE PAINTED WITH GREAT DELICACY AND BEAUTY OF COLOURING. The miraculous con- ception is unusually treated in the figure of S.
