Calcutta with a death rate of 2*1 was alone responsible fo 73 per cent, of total deaths due to this cause in urban areas. Pulmonary tuberculosis.—This disease was responsible for 7,721 deaths ii 1950 against 7,984 deaths in the previous year. The death rate was 0-4 pet mille for both these years. Whooping cough.—Altogether 752 deaths (67 urban and 685 rural) were recorded in 1950 as against 893 total deaths in the previous year. Other respiratory diseases.—-9,730 deaths were recorded under this heac during 1950 against 8,809 deaths in the previous year; the death rates bein^ 0*4 per milJe for both these years. Injuries.—7,478 deaths due to injuries were recorded in the State during 1950 against 7913 deaths in the previous year, the death rate being 0-4 pe] mille for both these years.
