$Small-pox.—tin England and Wales, only 7 cases of small-pox were notified, as compared with 149 in 1916, 90 in 1915, 65 in 1914, 115 in 1918, 123 in 1912, and 295 in 1911. These figures include in the earlier years some cases notified which subse- quently proved not to be small-pox. Two cases were notified in the City and 1 in the Port of Liver- pool, 1 case in Bangor, 1 in Grays, 1 in Smethwick, and 1 im Wortley Rural District. In the two latter cases the diagnosis was open to some suspicion. Typhus Fever.—Only 4 cases of typhus fever were notified, as compared with 4 in 1916, 45 in 1915, 15 in 1914, 18 in 1913, 31 in 1912, and 65 in 1911. These figures include some cases notified which subsequently proved not to be typhus. The cases were notified from Stepney, Liverpool, Manchester and Rhondda respectively. The case notified from Rhondda was probably one of measles. Other Infectious Diseases.—Of Scarlet Fever 48,817 cases were notified, as compared with 75,722 in 1916; of Diphtheria 43,315 cases, as compared with 51,707 in 1916; of Enteric Fever 4,601 cases, as compared with 5,564 in 1916; of Puerperal Fever 1,545 cases, as compared with 1,996 in 1916; of Hrysipelas 15,325 cases, as compared with 18,510 in 1916; of Cerebro-Spinal Fever 1,465 cases, as compared with 1,306 in 1916; 2,566 in 1915; 315 in 1914, and 305 in 1913.
