    The fvmptoms of this difeafe have been fo Biagn^ki J a Sp£H$o minutely defcribed by Others, that I fhall only take notice of thofe, which may fooneft diftinguifli it from other diftempers, efpecially from that with which it is fo commonly confounded, or miftakeri for, in women, viz. what the good women call the Whites. * The firff material fymptom of this diftemperj, is a difeharge of a whitifh, yellow or greenifh matter from the Urethra of men, and the Vagina of women, which appears firft on their linnen, 2. A fmarting, fharp, and pricking pain in making water. This ftate of the difeafe is not eafily diftin- DiJUnffion guiflied from the Whites, becaufe the matter dif- mkesat charged in both is of the fame colour and confift- ence, and the heat of urine often the fame. Yet I think they may be clearly diflinguiihed, by the quantity of the difeharge, which is ufually much larger in the Whites , than when vene¬ real; by its continuance for feveral weeks or months, without any other fymptom appearing, which is peculiar to the venereal difeafe ; by its not infedting the hufband ; and by the account the patient gives of herfelf, or her hufband, 3. A troublelome, and often an exceeding chvrfa. painful and involuntary eredtion, which plagues them mofl when warm in bed. 4. A painful sluing o\ fwelling on the Perinseum and bulb of the Ure- thcFsrinx' _ nm, thra. 5. Red excrefcencies like warts, on the renewal glans, forefkin, &c. and upon the parts of wo- Wart*' men. -6. A Phimofis, i. e. when the fore- Phimfis fkin cannot be pulled back without great pain ;
