    or a Paraphimofis, i. e. when the forefkin cannot be brought forwards. 7. Chancres, i. e. lit¬ tle ulcers on the glans, forefkin, &c. and on the parts of women. 8. A painful fwelling in one or both tefticles, oftner occafloned by taking improper medicines, or cold, than by the difeafe. Thisfymptom ought to be particularly attended to, becaufe, tho’ there’s no danger ink, when proper- 3y treated at firft, yet by improper management, shehealthieft man may be made impotent forever afterwards ; of which I knew once a mod melan- eholly inflance. A gentleman of great worth, and large fortune, got a common running with heat of urine, &c. for which he applied to his apothecary, who told him it was but a trifle, and he would make him well in two or three weeks time. Ac¬ cordingly he fell to drenching of him, &c. after¬ wards he gave him a large pot of electuary, corn- pofed, 1 doubt not, of ipmeaflringent fluff, that, as he had promifed, foon flopped his running,which was in a little time fucceeded by a painful fwelling in both tefbicles. This alarmed both not a little- however, inftead of calling in proper affiftance, as he ought to have done, he told him, not to be un- eafy, for he would foon let him to rights again, which the poor innocent gentleman believing, fuffered him to go on. He then went to work with poultices, pi aiders, &c. by which he reduc’d the tumours pretty much, but left them as big again as they naturally were, perfectly indolent, and very hard : and allured him they would come to themfelves in time without any farther appli¬ cations w;t>f which he, flnee they gave him
